New wind-blown snow in the highest altitudes of the Tatras.
In the highest altitudes of the High Tatras the 1st avalanche danger level has been issued. In steep troughs, especially in southern orientations, a larger amount of snow, locally around 50cm, may be wind-bound, which may not be connected with the grassy base. There is a risk of slipping or loosening a small slide with a subsequent fall into steep rocky terrain.
Snowpack
Up to 40cm of new snow has fallen in the highest altitudes in the last 3 days, locally up to 50cm in steep couloirs and moguls. The first snow of the season poses a risk especially in steep exposed terrain where there is a risk of falling over rock thresholds and walls. Please note the icy and snow-covered hiking trails, where there is a risk of losing your bearings and wandering off into unsteep terrain.
